Dandong – A City Full of Surprises
Although the city of Dandong is a hub of cultural activity, it also has a laidback seaside atmosphere. River boats pass by every day, and the lights that light up the waterfront in the evenings are reminiscent of contemporary Europe. Facing Sinuiju, North Korea across the Yalu River, Dandong is the largest Chinese border city. Because of this a strong Korean presence is felt through cultural practices, and is greatly experienced in the cuisine. The rich natural resources of the area have contributed to an exciting era of development. This includes light industry and production of hawthorn and ginseng. The silk industry is also thriving and Dandong is the venue for the annual Oriental Silk Festival. Dandong is an ideal destination for tourists with an interest in culture, history, beautiful scenery and Asian cuisine, who will also enjoy the continental climate and the friendly atmosphere.
